BSG 4.5: Daybreak Part 2

Posted by Skye |

Well done, Ron Moore and Cast, Well Done.

The series is complete, the roller coaster ride has finally come to a complete stop. It was a great run with an almost perfect ending.

So Say We All.

Interesting to note is that my mitochondrial genetic markers place my ancestors leaving East Africa 15,000 to 20,000 years ago. In case you are wondering, my mitochondrial genetic code places me in the H haplotype group.

Am I part Cylon??

I've been reviewing the reactions of my favorite BSG fan sites today and gathered an overall opinion that the series finale was satisfying, except for the lazy ending Ron Moore wrote for Starbuck. I quite agree, as she was the most complex and compelling character on the show. The character was given no consideration at the end, she just dissapeared from the story line. Right after the show ended, I had to run to my movie collection to pull out an old title that reminded me of what Starbuck was to the Adama family - a guardian angel. The movie is called Fiorille, which won the Palm D'Or in 1993. For Alias fans, it is an early starring role for Michael Vartan, who plays Jean, the starcrossed and doomed French soldier. The spirit of this soldier haunts the decendants of the family that had him murdered, silently appearing when they are in most need of guidance. Just like Kara, although she is definitely not the silent type.

I am hoping that Starbuck as 'guardian angel' is the angle Ron Moore was going after with this finale.

BSG and the UN

Posted by Skye |

It seems the UN is looking for world unity ideas from the re-imagined Sci Fi show Battlestar Galactica.

No, really, I'm not joking.

Via Moonbattery:

Can all the world's problems be solved by watching Sci Fi Channel? The United Nations apparently thinks that's a good place to start, and will host a Battlestar Galactica retrospective and panel discussion on Tuesday to shed light on how the Emmy-winning show has handled such issues as human rights and reconciliation, terrorism, faith, children and warfare, and dialogue among civilizations.

Seriously, they should be made to watch the original series where a be-caped Adama handed down the law for the rag tag fleet. There were no quorums, no civilian president, or those damn reporters for that matter. It made for a better show, in my opinion.

BSG: Islanded in a Stream of Stars

Posted by Skye |

Still waiting for the full episode of "Someone to Watch Over Me" to be posted on Sci Fi Rewind. Missed the episode were Kara still is befuddled by her identity and Hera draws star maps based on Bob Dylan songs.

This week's episode "Islanded In A Stream of Stars". Yes, that is the correct spelling of the title.

The synopsis....Galactica is a crack away from an irreparable hull breach. Laura Roslin is still dying and Kara still has no idea who she is. Typical day in the life of the rag tag fleet.

Check out Jamie Bamber's new PETA ad. Yowza! Not sure if this is the same organization as PETA (People Enjoying Tasty Animals).

I'll be in my bunk....If I had a bunk.

BSG - Deadlock

Posted by Skye |

Episode 418 - Deadlock:

Ellen is faced with a decision that could have repercussions for humans and the future of the entire Cylon race.

Here we go again with the major decision that will split the fleet....again. I know liberal writers tend to be compulsive greeniacs, but for fraks sake, how many trees did they save by recycling BSG plot points?

Will Anders regain his memories or will his program be reset - All this has happened before and will happen again..

Is Daniel Kara's dad? Or is Daniel really Zak Adama? The final two episodes list the character of Zak Adama in their credits. Hmmmm....

Attention spoiler-phobes, I am a spoiler junkie. I would avoid the comment section if I were you.

BSG: No Exit

While aboard the Cylon baseship, Anders' condition releases a flood of visions and crucial memories.

I'll be happy to read your thoughts on this episode. Two views of this episode and I'm still fuzzy on the whole history of the Final Five. Who precisely is Daniel? Why is this related to Zak Adama?

BSG 4.5 Final Season Premier

Posted by Skye |

Well, ladies and gents, the day has finally arrived! The premier of the final season of Battlestar Galactica. Which has the distinct honor of being the only 4 season television show to run for 6 years.

The top question buzzing around the fan sites is the identity of the fifth and Final Cylon, which will be revealed at some point during this final season. Four of the five cylons have been revealed in Season 4.0, leaving fans speculating for nearly a year over the identity of the final cylon.

My own picks for this honor would be:

Gaeta: His character always came across as a darkhorse, always in the background and in close contact with the power players. He also was very good at hiding secrets, such as his sexuality.

Dee: Another character who found ways to connect personally and professionally with the leaders of the decimated human race. She also is the only lead female character that has not been killed, threatened with death or returned from the dead.

Zarek: A terrorist turned vice president - how Iranian. His political and underworld connections put him in contact with the leadership of the military and civilian fleet.

Barak Obama: A community organizer with close ties to a domestic terrorist and a racist religious leader manages to be elected leader of the most powerful nation on the planet. Besides the writers and actors all adore BO and voted for him, even the Canadian actors. Nothing is impossible in the realm of science fiction or presidential elections, it seems.

Last but not least:
Romo Lampkin: He is a civilian lawyer that appeared out of nowhere to defend Gauis Balter against the charge of genocide. He is highly manipulative of Lee Adama and is very cryptic about his former life. There is almost something supernatural about him and his damn cat.

I chose these individuals because of their connection to the leadership of the ragtag fleet. During the reveal episode of the 4 cylons, the writers made a point to connect each one of the 4 identified cylons to an individual of power in the colonial fleet. This is a trait the final cylon would have to have in order to hide in plain sight.

I don't believe Kara is the final cylon. There are indications that her character dies , for real this time, in this final season. Roslin or Bill Adama would be way to obvious. Speculation around the blogsphere claims that those pictured at the 'final supper' are not the final cylon.

What say you? Who do you believe is the final cylon? Check out the clues at SciFi.com

Scratching the BSG Itch

Posted by Skye |

For all my fellow BSG addicts who are impatiently waiting for the final episodes of BSG, you can scratch that itch at the San Diego Comic Con 2008. BSG, the only 4 season sci-fi show that is taking six years to air, has several writers and cast members appearing at this Con.

Galatica Sitrep is leading the coverage of this convention, which includes a link to a flickr photo stream where I may have discovered what TSO and Lilyea have been up to this weekend:

The Dudes

Of course, this may be pure speculation on my part with the costumes and such, however the likenesses are shockingly similar.

BSG Final Cylon

Posted by Skye |

BSG - Who is the final Cylon?

Ron Moore made a cryptic statement a few weeks ago when he observed that the final cylon was not pictured in the famous 'BSG Last Supper' photo shoot. Hmmm, Laura Roslin was present at this 'supper', but Dee, Zarek and Gaeta were absent.

My money is on Dee - she is the only strong female character who has not been killed off the show.

Zarek, the terrorist turned VP? Sounds a lot like the Prez of Iran. Nah, it would be too easy for this cretin to be the final cylon.

Gaeta, is a close second to Dee, in whom I believe is the final Cylon.

So, how many believe the last scene of the mid season cliff hanger was meant to be the remains the Brooklyn Bridge and NYC?

When in 2009 do you suppose the final episodes of this series will debut? It is the only 4 season series that played out over 6 years. Quite an accomplishment.

BSG 4 ~ Sine Qua Non

Posted by Skye |

Sine Qua Non - aka - "One Eyed Tigh and Peg Leg Gaeta". The BSGcast of Matt and Nat discuss this episode. I have to say I agree with Nat's assessment of this episode. Also, whatever happened to Kara "I've been to Earth, I've smelled it, tasted it" Thrace. Is the thrill of Earth gone for her?

Adama For President

Posted by Skye |

Unfortunately, it is NOT this Adama for President. *SIGH*

Papa Adama seems to have a growing fanbase of supporters who would gladly punch their chad for Admiral Adama as President in 2008. I believe Adama has the fortitude and patented glacial stare to give overtake the Ron Paul vote in 2008. Go Admiral Adama - but please don't pose in towel!

UPDATE: Apparently, during the episode Sine Qua Non, Leland "Lee" Adama becomes the newly minted Prez of the fleet! As I am happy to see my Leland step into this important role; I am saddened by the realization that this new role will be devoid of 'post-flight' shower scenes favored by viper pilots and certain Naval aviators.

Hulu will air "Sine Qua Non" on June 7th. Until then, I will share with my dear readers

BSG Episode 9: Guess What's Coming To Dinner.

Matt and Nat of BSG Cast discuss Episode 4.09:

BSG 4 ~ Faith

This episode was essentially a part two of "The road to nowhere".

This episode's female body count = 4 bringing the "Dead Women of BSG Season 4" total to 6.

BSG 4 ~ The Road Less Traveled

Posted by Skye |

A possible truce with rebel Cylons leads Starbuck to put her trust in an old enemy.

Baltar is still working on the Jesus Christ Superstar persona, and one by one the newly revealed cyclons are falling for his shtick.

The good thing about Hulu is the ability to skip over the Baltar scenes and focus on the Captain Queeg/Starbuck storyline.

Yet another female character bites the (star)dust in this episode. She was a minor character, yet, she was the the only Marine with a name on this show. The Marines in this show are typically projected as faceless, nameless, brutal enforcers of colonial law.

I'm still not overly thrilled with this season. There is a distinct air of staleness in this final season. This series managed to attract a large cast of fabulously talented actors who meshed well together. Sadly, in this final season, the kinetic energy of the main cast is gone, simply disappeared, just like the story arc of this show. There were strong hints that this may be the case in the eternal hiatus between season 3 and 4. Two actors, whose characters were revealed to be newly minted cylons, publicly stated their dismay on the turn of their character in this series. Katie Sackhoff had made statements regarding her request for her character, Starbuck, to be killed again this season. For real, this time.

Still think the final cylon could be Dee, Zarek or Gaeta. What say you?

BSG 4 ~ Escape Velocity

Posted by Skye |

This episode was directed by Edward James Olmos.

Leave it to Baltar to incite divisions amongst the fleet and make a backhand slap at monotheism.

Cally's dead, and Tyrol is crazy. Move along, nothing new to see here.

Can they just find Earth, for frak's sake. This storyline is getting beyond annoying.

BSG 4 ~ Ties That Bind

Posted by Skye |

A good dose of the dark and creepy side of BSG.

Yet again, the writers kill off a strong female character. What is up with the SciFi genre and its murderous stance on strong female characters? You are gonna have to watch the episode to find out who finds her way out an airlock.

The cylons are in the midst of a full blown civil war and have rejected the principles of democracy. Happy now?

Kara is still lost in space, and the crew is growing increasingly annoyed with this mission. Sam and Kara share a twisted scene that bordered on domestic violence. I can't wait till Kara finds Earth, then returns to Galactica and Lee. I'd like to see Sam airlocked, but the writers tend to kill women and spare the men in this series.

Lee Adama is now a fledgling politician. *SIGH* I'm gonna miss this:

BSG Season 4 - Six of One

Posted by Skye |

Six of One:

There is trouble in the state of Denmark with the burgeoning civil war between the Cylon 'skin jobs' and the Cylon 'toasters'.

Kara is still ranting on the best way to get to Earth. President Roslin is not having any of it, and Papa Adama is out of patience with Kara's antics. Pointing a gun at the President is the quickest way to the brig and NOT to Earth.

Balter continues to behave as....Baltar (JC-S). The less said the better regarding this story line.

Kara and Lee say goodbye - and yet again demonstrate the volcanic chemistry between these two characters. Of course this means the writers must separate these two adorable characters for the remainder of the final season. SIGH...

Kara and crew are given the Demetrius to search for Earth and to get Kara away from President Roslin's cross hairs. The president has a penchant for throwing people out of the nearest airlock.

BSG 4: He That Believth in Me

Posted by Skye |

Color me unimpressed.

A quick rundown of the premier episode:

The series picks up where it left off - with Kara's mysterious return from her apparent suicide. She also comes with the added bonus of having been to Earth, complete with a set of vacation photos from her trip.

Ohkay...

No one believes her, of course, except for the newly single and jobless, Lee Adama.

After his acquittal
, Giaus Balter is quickly fitting into his new role as Jesus Christ - Superstar. Oh lords of kobol, spare us this lame plot device...so say we all!

All through the premiere episode, Kara claims to know the way to Earth through a gut feeling, and not through a detailed navigational star chart. Pfft....star maps are over-rated anyway - ask any Navy pilot!

Again, no one believes her. Except for the newly single and jobless, Lee Adama.

President Roslyn tells Kara to stuff it and continues the journey to Earth based on navigational charts and some prophecy of pythia. Whatever. The show ends with Kara demonstrating some kung fu moves she learned on her recent trip to Earth and holding a gun to the President's head.

To Be Continued

iRoomba, Do You?

Confession of a Woot addict:

I admit that I am a
Woot addict, and have been one for quite some time and I'm not alone in this addiction. It is the first topic of conversation at the office, where my coworkers compare their latest purchases and speculate on when the next woot-off or bag-of-crap will occur on Woot.

Additionally, there is a unofficial competition at the office to collect the largest number of woot-shirts. There have been many nights when my alarm was set at 2 am to catch the latest woot shirt. Ah, the life of an addict...

My latest purchase is the iRobot Roomba 4296 Remote Schedular Robotic Vacuum. Woot claims its "low-profile design fits under beds, sofas, and other tight spots where conventional vacuums can't reach". It acts just like my precious Pomeranian, but with better results! Below is a photo of the Roomba that I snagged from Woot:

Below is a recent photo of Le Poofy Dog:

I look forward to the iRoomba vs Poofy Dog interaction!

Stay tuned for the video.

Friday's Musings

Posted by Skye |

Rich Davis reports on last week's rally and after party in West Chester.

The Junkman reports on the non-consensus of IPCC scientists:

The “climate consensus” notion functions primarily as a marketing tool for converting the public to a political viewpoint, rather than as a valid scientific approach toward understanding global warming. But even then, the survey indicates that the claimed IPCC consensus is not nearly as monolithic as we’ve been led to believe.

John Coleman, the founder of The Weather Channel comes out of the Global Warming closet:

It is the greatest scam in history. I am amazed, appalled and highly offended by it. Global Warming; It is a SCAM.

Michael Yon spoke with Hugh Hewitt:

...today we heard a different side of Michael Yon. He was as upbeat and optimistic as we've ever heard him. He's been all over Iraq during the last several months, and reported that even in Baghdad, hope, peace, reconstruction, support and even appreciation for what our military has done for the Iraqi populace is breaking out all over.

When we will get a mea culpa from the Democratic leadership and the supporters of the Chester County Peace Movement?

For all the folks who are truly invested in peace, check out Yon's photo of Muslims and Christians working together to place a cross atop the newly reopened St John's Church in Baghdad.

One more Michael Yon note: He shoots with Canon and Nikon. I think I'm crushing on him!

The citizens of Philadelphia have spoken and voted for more of the same: Michael Nutter is now the newly minted mayor-elect for the city of brotherly love. While police officers were gunned down in our streets, he ran election commericals that promised to hold Bush&Cheney accountable. Like I mentioned earlier, more of the same....

While on the subject of liberal bias:

The debate is over. A consensus has been reached. No, not on global warming...see above. On how democrats are favored on television, radio and in the newspapers

The Writers Guild of America is still on strike. Does this mean BSG season 4's start date will be pushed farther into eternity? Will anyone still care??

BSG: Season 4

Posted by Skye |

Kiss BSG Goodbye:

"This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we've decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms," Eick and Moore said in the statement. "And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there –- we're going out with a bang ."

I suspect Season 4 will resemble a re-imagining of Galactica 1980. The show already jumped the shark at Maelstrom - it has nothing redeemable left.

Perhaps if Moore and Eick didn't disrupt the chemistry between the central characters and focused on writing a compelling story instead of using the show to score political points; maybe their 'internal voices' would have green lighted the series for several more years.

I hate being right all the time...but season 3 and Ron Moore's ego destroyed this series.
