Saddam Sentenced....finally!

Posted by Skye |

Nov. 5 (Bloomberg) -- Former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein was sentenced to death by hanging today for his role in the killing of 148 Shiite Muslims in the northern Iraqi village of Dujail following an attempt on his life there in 1982.

A new chapter in the story of Iraq has unfolded. This is a remarkable opportunity for Iraq to begin to find closure from its brutal past. Although, liberal democrats believe that this closure should come from without Iraq, and not from within. *SIGH* - and they wonder why they lose election after election.

Mohammed Fadhil, co-author of Iraq the Model (ITM) has written of his impressions after the verdict was announced in Baghdad. I could not have expressed these sentiments better:

I was overwhelmed with joy and relief as I watched the criminals being read their verdicts. For the first time in our region tyrants are being punished for their crimes through a court of law.

This is the day for Saddam’s lovers to weep and I expect their shock and grieve to be huge. They had always thought their master was immortal so let them live in their disappointment while we live for our future.

This is a day not only for Iraqis but a historic day for the whole region; today new basis for dealing between rulers and peoples are found.

No one is above the law anymore.

Bravo, Iraq! Well Done!
