Healthcare Forum hosted by Damian Dachowski

Posted by Skye |

Last night I attended a healthcare forum hosted hosted by Damian Dachowski at the Lower Moreland Community Center. Damian has announced his intention of running against the tax and spend incumbent - Allyson Schwartz. It has been noted that the Congresswoman has yet to schedule a healthcare meeting with her constituents.

The HCAN astrosurf crowd were present with the same discredited information which they managed to goof up. FYI - the ranking you want is "37" not "33". About that ranking - even the WHO has backed away from that data published in 2000 after receiving a firestorm of critical analysis of the data worldwide. Here is one such report looking at the mortality statistics presented by WHO. CATO launched a withering attack on WHO's data - WHO's Fooling Who?

Some highlights from the forum:

  • The Host - Damian Dachchowski, a bold fresh candidate for the constituents of District 13. Haven't we had enough of the unending tax and spend habits of the current District 13 seat holder?
  • The panel - Anna Puig, Edwin R. Thompson, Matthew Nicholas were well versed regarding their specific views on the health care debate. I enjoyed listening to their point of view and learning something new.
  • An HCAN attendee remarked, after scanning literature shared by Ana Puig, that the British health system has similar problems as our current health care. I'd like to thank him for clearly pointing out that we are about to restructure one seventh of our economy in exchange for an equally broken healthcare system.
  • HCAN supporters WANT single payer health care regardless of the consequences (see above statement) - that was the take home message from this event.
  • Rep. Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz voted "Not Present" at this event.
  • Edwin Thompson gets the zinger of the night when he skillfully handed a 'reality check' to a HCAN supporter. When discussing the reality of being fined for not having adequate health coverage, a HCAN supporter shot back with the legal requirement of having car insurance if you drive. Mike responded by stating that you have to own and drive a car in order to purchase the insurance - If you don't own a car you are not penalized (taxed) for not having adequate car insurance. I for one want to see HHS and the IRS fining the homeless that inhabit center city Philly.

Steven Crowder Gets a Job!

Posted by Skye |

A few weeks ago I posted the above photo to Flickr. It was taken at a recent healthcare forum in Philly and I titled it: "A Paid Protester - Note Who Sponsored the Sign". The title ruffled the feathers of a Philly photographer who left a series of comments on my Flickr account trying to disclaim the idea of a paid protester. When I steered him back to common sense with my replies, he lamely tried to paint my Sheepdogs as paid hacks. If I had a dime for every time that false accusation was laid down, I would be a paid hack - at their expense!

Last week, PJTV's Steven Crowder went on a job interview with California's premier liberal activist organization - much like HCAN - where he found he would be paid handsomely for being a grass root activist (see photo above). That's not all he discovered, you have to watch the video to see what a professional astroturfing organization looks like:

Wow, being paid $33,000 clams to stand at a busy public space with a sign (see photo above). Not a bad gig at all, if it weren't disingenuous and hurtful to the public welfare. I wonder if Madame Speaker would like to recalibrate her statement regarding astroturf activists or will she just blame the CIA..again.

Being closely involved in a grassroot organization since 2007, I have seen first hand what a small group of determined, UNPAID individuals can do; indeed, it may be what saves this country.

Oh, I did capture a video of the woman pictured above - not sure I'd want her deciding healthcare benefits for this nation - especially since she does not know her data all that well:

In related news:

(CNSNews.com)
- In news leaked late Friday to the Reuters news agency, the White House conceded that the national debt will increase by $9 trillion over the next ten years, nearly doubling a national debt that now stands at $11.67 trillion. Until now, the White House had been estimating that the national debt would increase by $7.108 trillion between 2010 and 2019.

No Healthcare Reform without Legal Reform

The following was posted on Sarah Palin's FaceBook account. Spot on analysis with supporting data listed below the text.

President Obama's health care "reform" plan has met with significant criticism across the country. Many Americans want change and reform in our current health care system. We recognize that while we have the greatest medical care in the world, there are major problems that we must face, especially in terms of reining in costs and allowing care to be affordable for all. However, as we have seen, current plans being pushed by the Democratic leadership represent change that may not be what we had in mind -- change which poses serious ethical concerns over the government having control over our families’ health care decisions. In addition, the current plans greatly increase costs of health care, while doing lip service toward controlling costs.

We need to address a REAL bipartisan reform proposition that will have REAL impacts on costs and quality of patient care.

As Governor of Alaska, I learned a little bit about being a target for frivolous suits and complaints (Please, do I really need to footnote that?). I went my whole life without needing a lawyer on speed-dial, but all that changes when you become a target for opportunists and people with no scruples. Our nation’s health care providers have been the targets of similar opportunists for years, and they too have found themselves subjected to false, frivolous, and baseless claims. To quote a former president, “I feel your pain.”

So what can we do?
First, we cannot have health care reform without tort reform. The two are intertwined. For example, one supposed justification for socialized medicine is the high cost of health care. As Dr. Scott Gottlieb recently noted, “If Mr. Obama is serious about lowering costs, he'll need to reform the economic structures in medicine—especially programs like Medicare.” [1] Two examples of these “economic structures” are high malpractice insurance premiums foisted on physicians (and ultimately passed on to consumers as “high health care costs”) and the billions wasted on defensive medicine.

Dr. Stuart Weinstein, with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, recently explained the problem:

”
The medical liability crisis has had many unintended consequences, most notably a decrease in access to care in a growing number of states and an increase in healthcare costs.
Access is affected as physicians move their practices to states with lower liability rates and change their practice patterns to reduce or eliminate high-risk services. When one considers that half of all neurosurgeons—as well as one third of all orthopedic surgeons, one third of all emergency physicians, and one third of all trauma surgeons—are sued each year, is it any wonder that 70 percent of emergency departments are at risk because they lack available on-call specialist coverage?” [2]

Dr. Weinstein makes good points, points completely ignored by President Obama. Dr. Weinstein details the costs that our out-of-control tort system are causing the health care industry and notes research that “found that liability reforms could reduce defensive medicine practices, leading to a 5 percent to 9 percent reduction in medical expenditures without any effect on mortality or medical complications.” Dr. Weinstein writes:

“If the Kessler and McClellan estimates were applied to total U.S. healthcare spending in 2005, the defensive medicine costs would total between $100 billion and $178 billion per year. Add to this the cost of defending malpractice cases, paying compensation, and covering additional administrative costs (a total of $29.4 billion). Thus, the average American family pays an additional $1,700 to $2,000 per year in healthcare costs simply to cover the costs of defensive medicine.
Excessive litigation and waste in the nation’s current tort system imposes an estimated yearly tort tax of $9,827 for a family of four and increases healthcare spending in the United States by $124 billion. How does this translate to individuals? The average obstetrician-gynecologist (OB-GYN) delivers 100 babies per year. If that OB-GYN must pay a medical liability premium of $200,000 each year (which is the rate in Florida), $2,000 of the delivery cost for each baby goes to pay the cost of the medical liability premium.” [3]

You would think that any effort to reform our health care system would include tort reform, especially if the stated purpose for Obama’s plan to nationalize our health care industry is the current high costs.

So I have new questions for the president: Why no legal reform? Why continue to encourage defensive medicine that wastes billions of dollars and does nothing for the patients? Do you want health care reform to benefit trial attorneys or patients?

Many states, including my own state of Alaska, have enacted caps on lawsuit awards against health care providers. Texas enacted caps and found that one county’s medical malpractice claims dropped 41 percent, and another study found a “55 percent decline” after reform measures were passed. [4] That’s one step in health care reform. Limiting lawyer contingency fees, as is done under the Federal Tort Claims Act, is another step. The State of Alaska pioneered the “loser pays” rule in the United States, which deters frivolous civil law suits by making the loser partially pay the winner’s legal bills. Preventing quack doctors from giving “expert” testimony in court against real doctors is another reform.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry noted that, after his state enacted tort reform measures, the number of doctors applying to practice medicine in Texas “skyrocketed by 57 percent” and that the tort reforms “brought critical specialties to underserved areas.” These are real reforms that actually improve access to health care. [5]

Dr. Weinstein’s research shows that around $200 billion per year could be saved with legal reform. That’s real savings. That’s money that could be used to build roads, schools, or hospitals.
If you want to save health care, let’s listen to our doctors. There should be no health care reform without legal reform. There can be no true health care reform without legal reform.

Pizza Naan ala Whole Foods Market

Posted by Skye |

Busy day today! After my morning run I headed out to Whole Foods Market to stock my pantry. I'm happy to report there were no UFCW wingnuts handing out hate literature at my local store. Below are just some of the goodies that can be found at Whole Foods Market:

When shopping look for the "365" brand which is more economically priced and very high quality; as mentioned in America's Test Kitchen and Consumer Reports. There are also 'house brands' as well, that offer lower prices and high quality. Armed with a little information you can save while stocking your pantry with high quality organic food.

Tonight's dinner - ala - Whole Foods Market: Naan Pizza

Recipe:

Whole Wheat Naan
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Hydroponic Tomatoes
BGH free Part Skim Mozzarella
Sundried Tomato and Basil sauce
Organic garlic
Organic oregano
Organic yellow onion
Sliced pepperoni

Rub the Naan with olive oil, spread tomato sauce and add ingredients to suit your taste.

Bake at 475 for 6-8 minutes

Facts are Stubborn Things in HealthCare

The Heritage Foundation takes a closer look at a government administered health care system in Oregon. The rationing is going on full speed!

The cost of the OHP far outstripped original estimates so new enrollment in the program was closed from mid-2004 until early 2008, when a lottery-based system was introduced to limit new enrollments.
This Ain't Hell declares Hypocrisy Day at TAH: Democrat Corporate Shills? Impossible!

Cash For Clunkers Folds - but not before Rep. Allyson Schwartz along with a cabal of Democrats spent an additional 2 billion dollars on this boondoggle. Is there a spending bill that Dems won't approve? Oh, yes..funding to our troops.

Fire Contessa Brewer

Posted by Skye |

Americans For Limited Government issued a demand today for the "immediate termination of Contessa Brewer, Toure, Dylan Ratigan" in regards to their intentional race baiting broadcast on August 18th.

The letter is as follows:

Mr. Steve Capus
NBC News
30 Rockefeller Plaza
New York, N.Y. 10112

Dear Mr. Capus:

On Tuesday, August 18, at 10:45 AM, your network -- with a blatantly racist broadcast -- took the falsification of the news to a dangerous new low. I am writing to you today on behalf of the 400,000 members of Americans for Limited Government nationwide to ask that all involved in this nefarious assault on decency be immediately fired from their jobs.

I am referring, of course, to the MSNBC “news” cast on that morning in which your anchors hysterically raised the specter of impending racial violence -- while carefull y cropping the very video upon which they based their duplicitous charges. Leading audiences nationwide to believe that militant whites were mounting violence against a black President, they deliberately covered up the fact that the individual they were framing was himself African-American.

I could go on with a graphic description of the horrendous misrepresentation foisted on the American people by your anchors and those who worked with them on your distorted reportage, but by now, I am sure that you are well aware of the despicable fraud they perpetrated. Even if you, like most Americans, were not watching MSNBC at the time, you undoubtedly have been apprised of the transgression by now.

Therefore, I will not waste your time or mine regurgitating the facts of the blatant abuse of the public trust. Instead, let me simply get to the vital thrust of this letter:

On behalf of the nearly half million members of Americans for Limited Government – and tens of millions of other equally appalled Americans of all races nationwide -- I hereby demand the immediate termination of Contessa Brewer, Toure, Dylan Ratigan and any and all others involved in any way with the fraudulent “news” that ran in the 10:45AM segment of your August 18 broadcast.

Your network has besmirched the dignity and honor of American people. You have endangered the life of the President of the United States. You have purposely fanned racial tensions. And you have deliberately lied to your own audience.

Failure on your part to act will be proof positive that you, your corporation and the corporation that owns you intended this deception. As such, you can no longer claim to be “press” in any sense of the word but will have crossed the line, becoming a political advocacy organization. That, then, becomes a matter for the FCC and the courts to consider the proper punishment for this gross transgression of the rules of a civil society.

Thank you.

Working Moms Talk HealthCare

Republican Women and working moms giving their perspective on the Democrats health care plan.It would be interesting if these women submitted questions to Obama regarding healthcare..oh..wait..these are the people that Obama wants to 'shut up and get out of the way".

Speaking of healthy living, this weekend I'll be restocking the pantry with Whole Food products. At the recent Right Online conference, Grover Norquist spoke of liberal's tendency to eat their own. The liberal/Dem boycott of Whole Foods Market in response to CEO Steve Mackey's healthcare Op Ed is a prime example of this behavior. I'd also throw in the firing of Tommy Christopher as well. Anyone deviating from liberal/dem marching orders are kicked out of the big tent - makes you wonder what type of people populate their 'big tent'?

Astroturf Recruitment in Philly

Posted by Skye |

Hello MSM! Apparently it takes a blogger to do the work you won't do. Surfing on Philly's Craig's List this evening, I stumbled upon this advertisement looking for grassroot activists to get paid for supporting Obamacare:

Yep, your lying eyes are viewing that correctly - "Summer of Change" is recruiting activists to form grassroot campaigns against "powerful special interest groups like drug and insurance companies". Perhaps getting paid to hold custom made signs at rallies? Oh wait, isn't that precisely what the media and the leftosphere have been accusing the Republicans and tea party patriots of doing? How can democrats be so up in arms about outside funding for Tea Parties when they are doing the same thing? Check out the
Health Care for America Now! website:

Notice the sign held by a paid protester in the screen shot above? Haven't we seen them pop up at healthcare rallies recently - usually held by migrant day laborers. Those signs cost a pretty penny - wonder who is funding the day laborers and the printing of the signs? Certainly NOT the GOP!

Since I don't make allegations with out any supporting data, here are the links to Philly Craigslist recruitment ads:

PennPIRG
Summer of Change

Philly is not unique in our funding of grassroot organizing for Obamacare - a helpful tweet lead me to the Sacramento Craigslist that has plenty of Obamacare sign holding opportunities:

NewsBusters is covering the Manhattan Craigslist ad looking for 'Talented leaders needed to work for healthcare reform'. Where is the media outcry? Is this exactly what they denounced the GOP of fostering? Their silence speaks of journalistic cowardice or Obama worship - take your pick.

On a related note, I did find this job advertisement in Philly to be so very relevant to the problems we face with our reckless government:

SIEU - Modern Day Brownshirts

Posted by Skye |

Today, the new brown is purple.

Millions of Americans enjoy the benefits of having the best quality healthcare this world has ever seen and are quite happy with their healthcare insurance - I'm one of them. Democrats, lead by the Obama administration, are working to restructure our healthcare system - one seventh of our economy - into something that will not provide the level of care we have become accustomed to in today's economy. This sweeping bill, mind you, has not been read by the legislators who will vote on it.

They probably don't read the polls on their own website as well. I discovered one ardent supporter of Obamacare, Congressman David Scott, has a poll which asks 'What is your health insurance status?' The results are quite telling: 98.74% of respondents are satisfied with their plan - why is the congressman trying to fix something that obviously is not broken?

I assume he was too busy shouting down an uppity, yet well dressed, constituent:

After witnessing the government spend trillions of taxpayer dollars to bailout or buy out private businesses, can this government afford to properly manage such sweeping change in the way the US manages healthcare? Can you imagine the disaster if we allow one seventh of our economy to be managed by the government only to find, like the Cash for Clunkers program, that it was not planned well and it will require additional trillions in funding or else??

Remember, everything - including taxation is 'on the table' according to leading democrats:

I encourage all concerned Americans to ask their representatives these five questions:

1) Can you promise me that I will not lose my current plan and doctor? President Obama says it is "not legitimate" to claim the "public option is somehow a Trojan horse for a single-payer system." But Reps. Barney Frank (D-MA), Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), and Nobel Prize winning economist Paul Krugman have all admitted that the public option will inevitably lead to government-run health care.

2) Can you promise that you and your family will enroll in the public plan? Members of Congress and their families currently receive health care through the popular, and completely public-option-free, Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP), which allows members of Congress to choose between 283 private health insurance plans. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) proposed an amendment that would require all members of Congress and their staffs to enroll in the newly created public health insurance plan. His amendment passed by just one vote in the Senate Health Committee. In the House, Rep. Dean Heller (R-NV) offered a similar amendment and all 21 Democrats on the House Ways and Means Committee voted it down. If the public plan is so great, then members of Congress should be willing to forfeit their private coverage and join the millions of Americans who would be forced into the public plan.

3) Can you promise that Obamacare will not lead to higher deficits in the long term? President Obama said that he would not support health care legislation that would add to the national deficit. But Congressional Budget Office director Douglas Elmendorf has stated that the House health care legislation would "generate substantial increases in federal budget deficits during the decade beyond the current 10-year budget window." To help Obama keep his promise, Rep. Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) offered an amendment that would require the secretary of Health and Human Services to submit an annual report to the President and Congress, comparing the expected revenue and spending under the bill’s provisions for the upcoming 10-year period. In the event that projected spending under the bill outpaced revenue, the Secretary would have to reduce spending so that it would not exceed revenue. Democrats defeated Tiberi's amendment.

4) Can you promise that government bureaucrats will not ration health care for patients on the public plan? President Obama promised on July 22 that health care reform would keep the government out of health care decisions, but both the House and Senate bills call for an increased role of comparative effectiveness research (CER). More information on health care effectiveness is good, as long as doctors and patients are the ones empowered to use that information. Conservatives in both the House and Senate offered amendments prohibiting the use of CER by government to mandate, deny, or ration care. These anti-rationing amendments were defeated in both the House and Senate.

5) Can you promise me that my tax dollars will not fund abortions? The House bill, as currently drafted, allows the Secretary of Health and Human Services to outline the minimum benefits that must be included in any health plan. There is no specific provision in the bill that would require insurance coverage of abortion. However, since the decisions over benefits are left to the Secretary of HHS, with recommendations from a newly created Health Care Benefits Advisory Committee, there is nothing to prevent the current or future Secretary from including abortion coverage in Americans’ health insurance. Conservatives in both the House and Senate offered amendments that would prohibit the use of taxpayer dollars to fund abortions. The taxpayer funded abortion bans were defeated in both the House and Senate.
